They are forever joined at the hip in baseball lore. The 1951 National League Pennant came down to one game pitting the New York Giants with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning Bobby Thomson of the Giants stepped to the plate with two runners on to face Ralph Branca of the Dodgers. After taking the first pitch for a strike Thomson delivered a fastball about five rows deep into the seats. Thomsons home run gave the Giants a 5-4 walk-off victory clinched the Pennant and sent the Giants to the World Series.
