Photorealist Charles Bell (1935 – 1995) was known for his authentic-looking oil paintings of pinball and gumball machines, as well as toys. Bell, who lived in New York, collected the items he depicted, painting them 10 times their size in blazing colors. Employed briefly as an accountant and studio musician, he created 200 artworks in his lifetime. Bell revealed the splendor and awe within the everyday, and is regarded as an important contemporary American artist.
