Montreal Crusader castle Shoubak Jordan The castle of Montreal was built in by Baldwin I of Jerusalem It later passed to Raynald of Chatillon who used it as a base from which to attack passing caravans In May the castle fell to the army of Saladin after a siege lasting almost two years during which the defenders are said to have sold their wives and children for food
