Cars—and hearts—race at top speed during Monaco’s thrilling Grand Prix. Green-flagged in 1929, the Grand Prix is a Formula One road course and one of the world’s most dangerous races. The ultimate driving test, it twists and turns along narrow streets, hairpin corners and hazardous stretches high above Monaco’s bay.
One of the world’s most acclaimed automotive artists, George Ham is known for technical accuracy and painstaking realism. A part-time racing driver, Ham (1900 – 1972) was an auto buff who duplicated the precise position of every car part and often exaggerated details to convey blazing speed. Ham created watercolors and gouaches, as well as caricatures of various race car drivers. He illustrated a catalogue, a leading French pictorial magazine, and posters of the Grand Prix of Monaco and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
