Members of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) set out Aug. 15 from New York before dawn to walk 230 miles to Washington, D.C., to participate in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on Aug. 28, 1963. There are 14 members in the group, which started from the Downstate Medical Center in the borough of Brooklyn.
