Lush plants adorning a warmly colored terrace provide a striking contrast to rugged mountains and cool blue waters in Carl Frederik Aagaard’s “Lodge on Lake Como.” Originally from Denmark, Aagaard (1833 – 1895) first studied art with his brother, a glass engraver. He later studied with many famous artists, including landscape oil painter Peter Kristian Skoovgaard. One of Copenhagen’s most influential Golden Age artists, Aagaard was commissioned to paint the chapel of King Christian IV.
