About the Artwork
© AllPosters.com
During Andre Kertesz’s 70-year career, he created innovative photographs of everyday life that revolutionized the use of hand-held cameras. Originally a Stock Exchange clerk in Budapest, Kertesz (1894 – 1985) took groundbreaking portraits, nudes and still lifes. With the Austro-Hungarian Army, he began his career as a photographer, taking pictures of soldiers engaged in normal activity, which diverged from the usual war pictures. For a decade, Kertesz freelanced for Paris magazines, and also worked for “Vogue,” “Harper’s Baazar” and “Town and Country.” His sensitive, expressive work still profoundly affects today’s photographic world.
