“L’Hiver a Monte Carlo” by French artist Jean Gabriel Domergue is a graceful portrait of socialites enjoying the good life. Domergue (1889 – 1962) considered himself to be the inventor of the pin-up, and painted famous beauties including Brigitte Bardot and Gina Lollobrigida, in his Cannes studio. A bon vivant who organized gala local events, Domergue imbued his work with an equally exuberant atmosphere.
