Common kingfisher. High-speed photograph of a common kingfisher, Alcedo atthis, flying towards its nest with a fish in its bill. This small bird lives and hunts around rivers, nesting in an upward-sloping tunnel in a bank (as seen) near water. A fast and agile flier, it watches the water from a perch and dives to catch small fish and crustaceans with its long bill. It is found in Europe, much of Asia and parts of Africa.
