When Tommy Thayer replaced original KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley in 2003, he had some mighty big platform boots to fill. But since Thayer’s road and KISS’ always seemed to intersect, he easily puckered up for the role. He was playing with LA glam rockers Black ’N Blue when they nailed the opening slot on KISS’ Asylum Tour. After Black ’N Blue broke up, Thayer took on the Ace Frehley role in a KISS tribute group that played at Paul Stanley’s birthday party. Not long after, his rock and roll dream came true, and he was hired as lead guitar slinger for the Hottest Band in the World.
