Ford Smith lends an exciting twist to a familiar form with the crimson tufts and fragile supporting filaments of “Just Between Us.” Initially earning a degree in painting, Smith pursued photography before returning to painting to express the beautiful horizons he had seen during his travels. Using a unique, physical technique, he allows dripping, flowing paint to find its own expression. He also guides the paint into certain positions, scattering plaster granules over its surface.
In his artwork, visionary artist Ford Smith takes viewers on an adventure in textures, shapes and color. Using a unique, physical technique, he encourages dripping, flowing paint to find its own imagery, and texturizes it with scattered plaster granules. Initially learning to paint in Japan, Smith became a top fashion photographer in Atlanta. Now exclusively a painter, he gets inspiration from world travels and is mesmerized by tranquil horizons, which he infuses with an early Asian aesthetic.
Hand-transferred to canvas, this art print is wrapped around 1.5" wood stretcher bars and centered in the 3/8" Espresso wood frame, which appears to float within the frame.
