Adventurous National Geographic photographer Stephen Alvarez has shot daunting and unspoiled regions throughout the world. His first assignment took him above 20,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes. Currently documenting violence at the Sudan/Uganda border, he has photographed roadless jungles and dangerous caves in locales from the United States to Papau New Guinea. Alvarez has received Communication Arts and Picture of the Year International awards, as well as a Banff Centre grant.
