Jan Vermeer painted “Girl with a Pearl Earring” with his trademark realism, skillfully applied color, and sparkling highlights. Little is known about the painting, sometimes called “the Dutch Mona Lisa,” or the painter Vermeer (1632 – 1675), who created very expressive interior scenes of everyday life. Despite the fact that Vermeer is known to have painted only 35 paintings, he is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the Dutch Golden Age.

While it looks fine on the wall of my living room, if I had it to do over, I would choose a size closer to the original work. This larger reproduction is just a little soft looking at close range. I'm still quite happy with it.

I would recommend buying this in the 8" X 10" size, which I have seen and which is excellent. I bought it in a larger size, and the enlargement causes the details to lose the vivid quality they have in the smaller version.
