An atmosphere of sensuality is awakened during a woman’s slumber in Victorian master Frederick Leighton’s “Flaming June” his most famous painting. Influenced by the Nazarenes and Italian Renaissance artists, Leighton (1830 – 1896) was an extremely intelligent, principled and hard-working artist who fluently spoke five languages. He was President of the Royal Academy for nearly two decades, and believed that sincerity bred achievement.
