Falsecolour computer enhancement of Jupiters Great Red Spot & the turbulent cloud formations to the south & west of it, photographed by the Voyager 1 spacecraft during its encounter with the planet in early March 1979. The Great Red Spot is believed to be a giant storm system, several times the size of the Earth, which has survived for at least the past 200 years. In the image, north is at the top. The distance from top to bottom is about 24,000 kilometres. The enhancement emphasises red & blue at the expense of green.
