A masterpiece of construction by architectural genius Frank Lloyd Wright, Falling Water, in Mill Run, Pennsylvania, was created to ingeniously blend with its surroundings. Built over a waterfall for the family of department store magnate Edgar J. Kaufmann in 1939, it displayed Wright’s fascination with European modernism, nature and daring structures. Falling Water’s design was said to exemplify and take architecture beyond the 20th century.
Frank Lloyd Wright is considered the most significant architect of the 20th century, giving American architecture it’s own identity previously dominated by outmoded European designs. During his 70 year career, Wright designed more than 500 structures. He was also prolific in creating furniture and housewares. An educator, author of twenty books, and head of an architectural firm, Wright significantly influenced modern architecture in theory and in practice.
