Donald Judd (1928 – 1994) expressed in his “Drawings at Castelli, 1976” that a three-dimensional object was a neutral form, not a painting or sculpture. Eventually criticizing painting as outdated, Judd was originally a painter inspired by abstract Expressionists. Moving on to challenge established artistic standards, he created hollow, repetitive, boxlike works using steel, concrete and plywood, and later designed furniture and architecture. Considered a Minimalist Art innovator, Judd revolutionized American sculpture, and his renowned work has been exhibited at highly respected galleries around the world.
