Born in Kyoto, Japan in 1949, Keiichi Nishimura studied kimono textile design as an apprentice to his father before moving to California and pursuing his art. Each of his original works utilizes the natural elements of ground oyster shell, melted pine sap and painting on silk along with various other techniques and materials to achieve rich textures and effects in a single work. Nishimura also applies his techniques to leather that can be found in boutiques and galleries in United States and Japan.
