Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Georg Wolfgang Knorr is known for the delicate detail and precision of his illustrations of shells and starfish. His drawings were influenced by his own interest in science, a popular subject matter of his era. Knorr (1705 –1761) was also a talented engraver of portraits, landscapes and animal studies, many of which were published. Among these, his Knorr’s engravings for Jacob Scheuchzer’s treatise "Physica sacra" are the most significant.
