Well-rounded people are important to Columbian artist Fernando Botero, as seen in his work. Both celebrating and satirizing his over-inflated subjects, Botero’s first exhibition, a sellout, was held when he was only 19. He became renowned worldwide following a 1969 exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Utilizing the diea that “art is deformation,” Botero uses his swollen figures to express political and social commentary regarding symbols of authority and power.
