“Bourdou” is one of 1000 images created by artist Leonetto Cappiello (1875 – 1942) whose playful, boldly colored posters made the products they advertised unforgettable. His work revolutionized advertising posters into a contemporary art form, creating a strong, positive association between products and the fun images in which they were painted. Crossing stylistic boundaries, Cappiello was a top European artist of the early 20th century, and his work continues to strongly inspire modern lithographers.
Called the father of the modern poster, Italian artist Leonetto Cappiello (1875 – 1942) made advertising posters modern and collectible. Cappiello, who was self-taught, began as a caricaturist and escalated to the early 20th century’s most acclaimed European artist. Cleverly linking products with vivid, memorable images, he produced 1,000 imaginative posters for beverages, ballet, literature, plays, travel and music halls in four decades. Leading the Art Deco movement, Cappiello’s techniques are still vital to modern advertising.
This art print displays sharp, vivid images with a high degree of color accuracy. A member of the versatile family of art prints, this high-quality reproduction represents the best of both worlds: quality and affordability. Art prints are created on paper similar to that of a postcard or greeting card using an offset lithography press.
