The first musician to popularize reggae music outside of Jamaica, visionary musician Bob Marley (1945 – 1981) became America’s first Third World superstar. Turning to singing after dropping out of school at age 14, he eventually teamed up with the Wailers. A devoted Rastafari, Marley crossed the cultural boundaries of the day as he strove to create “One World, One Love” through themes of religion and political activism.
