Prolific artist John Audubon (1785 – 1851), whose name is synonymous with bird prints, created an astounding 435 paintings of the species, including “Great Blue Heron.” For half a century, Audubon dominated wildlife art producing countless life-sized bird drawings which are still considered the the standard for aspiring artists of nature. In the late 1800s, the Audubon Society was founded in his name, honoring his respect for birds and the environment.
