The work chosen for the Official Art Print Edition 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ is from Orozco’s famous ‘Atomists’ series, in which he researches into the theory of the atoms and dismantles images into circles and spheres, solids and voids. In the “Blindside Run”, Orozco choreographed an extraordinary spectacle, showing the brilliance and ethics of individual and collective performance.
Gabriel Orozco (1962-) is one of the most influential and accomplished artists of the last decades. Orozco resists confinement to a single medium, roaming freely and fluently between drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, and painting. In his most intriguing and original works he deliberately merges "art" and "reality".
Born in Jalapa,Veracruz (Mexico), Orozco has been a constant world traveler in matters of art since the early 1990’s. He lives in Paris, New York and Mexico City. Orozco has had solo shows in the major museums around the world, among them the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin. He has received numerous prestigious awards. A big fan of football since his youth in Mexico City, many of his works are related to the sport. He currently plays in the Adecmac soccer league in Mexico City for the team Club Deportivo Sahara Español.
