For the Official Art Print Edition 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, Rochelle Costi presents “Bigger Than”. Through the meeting of two randomly found wooden objects, handmade by popular craftsmen, she intends to provoke an altered perception of the dimension of space, questioning the real 'size' of things and the 'space' that football occupies in the life of Brazilians.
Rochelle Costi (1961-) is a contemporary Brazilian artist who lives and works in São Paulo. Costi began working with photography at an early age and has studied architecture, communication, and advertising. Her work is a playful, though sincere record of both contemporary habits and rituals. In her work Rochelle strives to achieve an expression of the socially relevant. Costi’s “Rooms”, for example, are a series of photographs of bedrooms in and around Sao Paulo. In these photographs the artist lets the viewer scrutinize specific human universes in exhaustive details. She does so with a minimum of aesthetic or political commentary, thus achieving an even deeper investigation of culture.
