A single cannon sits in an abandoned trench at a Second Balkan War battlefield. The First Balkan War broke out in 1912, after Bulgaria, in alliance with Serbia and Greece, attacked Turkey to reclaim territory taken by the Congress of Berlin. The following year the Second Balkan War began when Serbia and Greece attacked Bulgaria, after they were unable to settle on the reclaimed territories.
