Product Information
In the self-portrait, “Autorretarto con Collre de Espinas y Colibri, 1940,” illustrious Mexican painter Frida Kahlo utilized the symbolism that was integral to much of her work. Kahlo filled this piece with symbols of Christian martyrdom, the Resurrection, bad luck, death, love and the anguish of her divorce from artist Diego Rivera. Kahlo (1907 – 1954) includes an image of her pet monkey, a gift from Rivera, to represent the devil. Kahlo had planned to give the painting to one of her lovers, but instead sold it to pay her divorce lawyer. This high-quality art print is expertly produced to capture the vivid color and exceptional detail of the original.
