Product Information
One of 55 self-portraits by acclaimed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, “Autorretrato con Bonito, 1941” exudes sorrow and mourning. After remarrying artist Diego Rivera, Kahlo’s joy turned to grief when she learned her father had died. Returning to the family home in Mexico, Kahlo (1907 – 1954) painted this work, wearing black to mourn the passing of her father, and including her beloved parrot, Bonito, who had also died. Kahlo is unadorned by flowers or jewelry, which signifies mourning. In contrast, the painting’s background bustles with life, This high-quality art print is expertly produced to capture the vivid color and exceptional detail of the original.
