“Paris is the city of love,” says contemporary photographer Kate Carrigan, “and one of my favorite urban subjects to create my art. In A Paris Kiss I chose to create a unique sepia tone that conjures up nostalgic romance. The iconic Eiffel tower glows in the background and I wanted to convey the dreamlike quality I felt as the lights mixed with the wet streets. The play of light on water in an urban setting creates a painterly effect that distorts reality in the most beautiful ways. We are witness to the young lover’s special moment, stopped, uncaring in the rainy night for an unapologetic embrace. They are hidden and anonymous, but their red umbrella is proof of the passion we feel as time seems to have stopped.”
